Conditions of Registration

A condition is applied to teachers who hold ACECQA-approved early childhood qualifications.

The condition restricts teaching to an early childhood setting including:

  • preschools and kindergartens
  • school-based preschool programs
  • centre-based long day care
  • out-of-school hours care

The condition is formally recorded on the Certificate of Teacher Registration.

Additional conditions may be applied depending on individual circumstances.

Public Register

The Teachers Registration Board of South Australia (TRBSA) maintains a Register of Teachers which includes:

  • registration type (provisional or full)
  • any conditions on registration

A separate Register of Special Authorities is also maintained.

Certificate of Teacher Registration

Registered teachers receive a certificate that includes:

  • full name and registration number
  • registration type
  • any conditions
  • expiry date
  • other relevant details determined by the Board

Special Authority to Teach (SAT) – Early Childhood Teacher (Working Towards)

The TRBSA may grant a Special Authority to Teach (SAT) to individuals who are not yet registered.

To be eligible for a SAT Early Childhood Teacher (Working Towards), applicants must:

  • be enrolled in an approved qualification
  • demonstrate satisfactory progress and meet ongoing course requirements
  • hold a diploma-level qualification or have completed at least 50% of the degree
  • have an offer of employment as an Early Childhood Teacher

SAT holders are monitored to ensure continued eligibility.
